DOVER (DE) – Madison Leone scored two goals and assisted on two others as Wesley College blanked visiting Delaware Valley College, 5-0, in a non-conference game.
The Aggies, who won just three games in 2011, ended their regular-season with a 7-11 record. More importantly, they went 4-3 in the Freedom Conference – after getting picked to finish seventh in the preseason coaches' poll – and will head to the conference tournament for the third time in the last four years. They are the fourth seed and will travel to King's College for a semifinal match-up on Wednesday, October 31 (4:00 p.m.). Earlier this season, Delaware Valley notched 2-1 upset over the Lady Monarchs in Doylestown.
Leone picked up her assists on the lone two goals of the first half. They were scored by Danielle Teari and Hannah Wilson less than four minutes apart. Leone opened the second stanza by picking up an unassisted tally just nine minutes in. Hannah Wilson added her second goal of the game just 78 seconds later and Leone completed the scoring with 17:59 remaining.
Wesley (10-8) outshot the Aggies, 28-15, and also had a 7-5 lead in penalty corners. Elizabeth Groom and Kayla Fromal combined for five saves and the shutout. Delaware Valley's
Sandra Edwards finished with nine saves.
