OWINGS MILLS (MD) -- William Paterson University struck five times in the second half as the Pioneers pulled away to a 7-1 victory over Delaware Valley College in the final day of competion at the Black Eyed Susan Tournament hosted by Stevenson University.
William Paterson (1-2) hit the scoreboard 4:52 in on a goal by Taylor Clayton, and added to the lead seven minutes later with a Kelsey Rella tally. The Aggies (1-2) made it a 2-1 contest with 6:52 left in the opening half as
Danni Heller sent a pass across the top of the circle to
Leah Hawthorn and the sophomore scored from 10 yards out for her third goal of the season.
However, it was all William Paterson in the second stanza including a three-goal spurt in a three-minute span. Clayton and Rella each picked up their second goals of the game during the flurry.
The Pioneers held advantages of 30-2 in shots and 11-4 in corners.
Hollis Hancock and
Sandra Edwards combined for 18 saves in the loss.
