DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College converted two penalty strokes in the extra session and goalkeeper
Hollis Hancock stopped all four Arcadia University attempts as the host Aggies picked up a 2-1, non-conference win.
Delaware Valley snapped a four-game losing streak as it improved to 2-4 on the year while the Knights fell to 0-7.
The game went scoreless for the first half before both teams hit the scoreboard in the first five minutes of the second stanza. Arcadia struck first with an unassisted goal by Marilyn Beatty just 73 seconds into the half. However, the Aggies wasted no time in responding as
Rony Jacober set up
Leah Hawthorn for her fourth goal of the season with 39:50 remaining.
Neither team was able to score over the rest of regulation and two, 15-minute overtime periods. Arcadia had the best opportunity as it was awarded a penalty stroke just 1:33 into the second overtime. However, Hancock turned aside Pam Schweitzer's shot to keep the Aggies alive.
Delaware Valley went first in the penalty strokes, but neither team could find the back of the cage on its first two attempts.
Sara Culver went in round three for the Aggies and she connected to put her team up. Hancock stopped Arcadia's next two attempts while Delaware Valley's
Jessica Summers hit the post in round four. That brought it to the fifth and final round of strokes where Jacober scored for the Aggies to give them the win.
Arcadia held commanding advantages of 24-9 in shots and 14-2 in corners. Hancock was outstanding in goal all afternoon as she recorded 21 saves over regulation and the two overtimes. Sarah Baumgardner had five saves for the Knights.
