DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College senior forward
Dana Gentile continued her strong start this season as she scored two goals and assisted on two others in the Aggies' 4-1 home victory over Gwynedd-Mercy College.
Delaware Valley, which was coming off last night's loss at Muhlenberg College, improved its record to 3-1 on the season. The Griffins saw their mark fall to 0-4-1.
Gentile led the Aggies in scoring last year with six goals and 15 points. She has already surpassed both figures as her six-point output on Sunday upped her season totals to eight goals and 18 points.
Delaware Valley took a lead that it never relinquished with 17:42 left in the first half as Gentile tapped a pass to
Miranda Schieler in the box and Schieler blasted it home for her second goal of the year. Fourteen minutes later Gentile took a feed from
Marianne Morton and found the corner of the net for a 2-0 advantage.
Gwynedd-Mercy cut its deficit in half just 9:45 into the second stanza as Kasey Reid scored her first goal of the year off assists from Brigid Dowling and Meghan Bojaowski. However, the momentum for the Griffins was short-lived as, just 22 seconds later, Gentile dribbled through a pair of defenders and put the ball in the net for an unassisted tally.
With Gwynedd-Mercy pressing up in the final minute, Gentile went down the right side and sent a pass across to
Kara Fecanin, who blasted it off the inside of the crossbar and in with just six seconds remaining. It was Fecanin's first goal of the year.
Delaware Valley held a slim, 18-17 advantage in shots while the Griffins had an 11-5 edge in corners. The Aggies'
Julie Burnell and Gwynedd-Mercy's Kirstyn Varas each had 10 saves in goal.
