MADISON (NJ) – Steve Seminerio went a combined 6-for-8 with four doubles, one triple, five runs scored and five RBIs to lead FDU-Florham to a Freedom Conference doubleheader sweep of visiting Delaware Valley College, 12-1 and 6-3.
The opener saw the Aggies (3-10, 0-3) jump out to a quick 1-0 lead as
Pete O'Hara singled in the top of the first, stole second and scored on a single by
Kellen Jarrett.
However, it was Devils (10-6, 5-2) from there as they answered right away with two runs in the bottom of the first. Seminerio led off with a triple and scored on an RBI single by Brandan Adams then scored on a sacrifice fly by Matt Joiner.
FDU-Florham made it 8-1 with four runs in the second and two more in the third. Adams and Seminerio had two RBIs in that stretch. The Devils added four more runs in the fifth inning with the big hit being a two-run single by Joiner.
Seminerio was 2-for-4 with a double, triple, three runs scored and two RBIs in the opener. Adams finished 2-for-5 with two runs and three RBIs while Joiner was 1-for-2 with three RBIs. Glenn Cox went the distance and allowed one run and six hits.
Jarrett was a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI while O'Hara finished 2-for-3 with a run scored for Delaware Valley.
Cody Hudnall lasted just two innings and took the loss.
The Aggies got the early advantage again in the nightcap
Jim Calabrese and O'Hara had back-to-back walk to start the game. They moved up a base on a wild pitch and Calabrese scored on a two-out single by
Tyler Lehman.
FDU-Florham tied the game in its half of the first on a run-scoring single by Nick Core. It then added two in the second on an RBI double by Seminerio and an RBI single by Matt Oliveto.
Delaware Valley made it a 3-2 contest in the top of the third as O'Hara walked, stole second and third, and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Jarrett. The Devils countered with two in their half of the stanza as Seminerio drove in both with his second double of the game.
The Aggies pulled to within two at 5-3 in the fifth as O'Hara singled home
Brandon Bell, who reached base on a walk. They then had runners on second and third with just one out in the sixth, but a strikeout and ground out ended the threat. FDU-Florham then added to the lead as Seminerio notched another double and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Core. Delaware Valley had the tying run at the plate with two outs in the seventh, but Chris Laudati got the final out for the save.
F.J. Luchetti went five innings, allowed just hits and picked up the win for the Devils. Seminerio was a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, two runs scored and three RBIs. Oliveto was 3-for-4 with an RBI while Core was 1-for-3 and drove in two.
Lehman and O'Hara had the lone hits for the Aggies.
Dan Spall pitched the first four innings and suffered the loss.
