FORT PIERCE (FL) -- The Delaware Valley College baseball team opened its 2011 campaign with an 8-6 loss to the College of Mount Saint Vincent on the team's annual Spring Break trip to Flordia.
The Aggies did not get off to a good start defensively as they committed seven errors, including five in the first inning alone. They fell into a 6-0 hole after the first stanza and tried to battle back all evening. They did have the tying run on base and the go-ahead run at the plate in the ninth inning, but Mount Saint Vincent was able to pitch out of the jam and secure the win.
Brian Hafer took the loss for Delaware Valley despite allowing just two earned run over five-plus innings of work. He fanned eight on the evening. Jake Barben was 2-for-5, including a three-run double. Mike Otstot went 2-for-4 with an RBI while Jim Calabrese and Kellen Jarrett also knocked in runs in the contest.
Mike Pope paced the victors as he went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Josh Sharpe went 3-for-4 with two runs scoted and one RBI. Mike Trainor picked up the win while Brian Rush added the save.
