DALLAS (PA) – Sam Helstetter scored two goals, including the game-winner with 7:41 remaining, as regionally-ranked Misericordia University held off Delaware Valley College's upset with a 3-2, Freedom Conference triumph.
The Aggies entered Sunday's contest needing the big road win plus a DeSales home victory over FDU-Florham in order to reach next week's conference playoffs. Instead, Delaware Valley's season came to end as it finished 7-8-2 overall and 3-4 in the Freedom. Misericordia, ranked fifth in the latest Mid-Atlantic Region poll, clinched the top seed for the playoffs as the Cougars improved to 12-3-2 overall and 6-0-1 in the Feedom.
Helmstetter gave Misericordia a 1-0 lead with 15:55 remaining in the first half as she took a feed from Laura Roney and found the net. Then with just 64 seconds to go before the intermission, it was Helmstetter's turn to set up Roney for a 2-0 Cougar advantage.
The Aggies fought back and tied the contest with two goals in a 23-second span in the second half. Off a free kick opportunity,

However with under eight minutes to go, the Cougars were awarded a corner and they converted as Helmstetter headed in Nicolette Hemsel's crossing pass. They then held on for the win.
