ONEONTA (NY) -- Emily Thorndike's goal midway through the second half lifted host Hartwick College to a 1-0 triumph over Delaware Valley College in the second and final day of the Erinn K. Brozman Memorial Cup.
The loss was the first of the season for the Aggies as they fell to 2-1. The Hawks improved to 1-1 on the year.
Delaware Valley dominated the action in the first half as it held a 10-1 advantage in shots, but could not put one past Hartwick goalkeeper Alyssa Rondo. The Hawks regrouped at the break and held a 7-4 advantage in shots over the final 45 minutes. One of those attempts found the net as Thorndike headed in a crossing pass from Carly Pine with 25:39 left on the clock. Rondo finished off the shutout and ended the game with six saves.
Delaware Valley freshmen
Miranda Schieler and
Julie Burnell split the goaltending duties for the third straight game. Schieler did not have to make a save in the first half while Burnell had three stops in the second stanza.
