PURCHASE (NY) – Delaware Valley College improved to 2-1 in the Freedom Conference for the first time in nineyears as the Aggies went on the road and posted a 3-0 victory over Manhattanville College. Set scores were 25-9, 25-18 and 25-23.
The win snapped a five-match losing streak for Delaware Valley as it improved to 6-7 overall. Its last victory was a 3-0 road triumph over Freedom foe King's College. The 2-1 start in the league standings (a loss to DeSales University) is the first since 2001 when the team eventually finished 2-4.
The Aggies cruised in the first two sets, especially the opening stanza where they recorded 16 kills and two errors in 25 attempts for a .560 hitting percentage. Delaware Valley then found itself down 22-17 in the third set before scoring six straight to take the lead. The Valiants (5-6, 0-3) tied the match at 23-23, but a kill by
Ashley Mikulsky and a service ace by
Jen Keller gave the Aggies the victory.
Kaitlyn Olsen returned to the lineup after missing the last two matches with an injury and the junior responded with 12 kills and just one error in 22 attacks.
Janel Gluch and
Destinee Horning added nine and eight kills respectively while Miklusky finished with seven kills and six digs. Keller's ace on match point was her fourth of the night.
Amy Scordato handed out 30 assists and dug out 10 balls in the win.
Makana Gomes had nine kills and 11 digs to pace Manhattanville.
