GWYNEDD VALLEY (PA) – Gwynedd-Mercy College pounded out 15 hits, including nine for extra bases, as the Griffins registered an 11-2, non-conference victory over visiting Delaware Valley College.
Gwynedd-Mercy (17-11) had seven doubles, one triple and one home run as part of its attack. Four of the extra-base hits occurred in the first three innings, including a double and a triple by Josh Martin, as the Griffins built a 7-1 lead. The lone Aggie run during those stanzas came on a double-play in the second inning.
Gwynedd-Mercy added to its advantage with a run in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the eighth. Delaware Valley's (10-17-1) final tally was in the top of the eighth on an RBI ground out by
Zach Chodur.
Martin finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored while Austin Ley was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and one RBI. Colin Tosti had a solo home run in his lone at-bat. Andrew Sinon pitched six innings and earned the win.
Six different Aggies accounted for the team's six hits, including doubles by
Mike Isgro and
Dylan Saldutti. Chodur was 1-for-3 with on RBI.
Jim Calabrese lasted three innings and took the loss.
