DELVAL BLANKS ALBRIGHT, 5-0

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Jim Calabrese and Brian Hafer combined for a six-shutout as Delaware Valley College posted a 6-0, non-conference victory over visiting Albright College.

The win improved the Aggies to 10-13-1 overall. They will begin a three-game, Freedom Conference t with Manhattanville College at home on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. (please note that this contest was moved up a day to the impending rain that's in the forecast for Friday). Albright fell to 5-20 with Wednesday's setback.

Calabrese got the call for his first collegiate start and the freshman did not disappoint. He went seven innings and allowed four hits and five walks while striking out three. Two of his walks were wiped out by double plays with the next batter. Hafer came out of the bullpen and allowed just two hits and one walk in the final two innings.

The game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the fourth when Zach Chodur led off with a double and moved to third on a ground out. Jake Barben then drew a walk and the Aggies executed a double steal to bring home Chodur for a 1-0 lead.

After a strikeout, Barben moved to third on a wild pitch. Mike Otsot then walked and stole second to put two runners in scoring position. Kellen Jarrett then ripped a single into left-center field to knock in both for a 3-0 advantage. Dylan Saldutti doubled and Mike Isgro, Division III's fourth leading hitter with a .524 batting average was intentionally walked to load the bases. An Albright error on the next play allowed a fourth Aggie run to score in the inning.

In the seventh, Delaware Valley loaded the bases with one on a Barben walk, an Otstot single and Jarrett getting hit by a pitch. Saldutti grounded out to third and Barben crossed home plate on the play for the final run of the afternoon.

Chodur and Saldutti each finished 2-for-5 in the game. Jarrett was 1-for-3 with two RBIs while Barben scored a pair of runs.

Six different players notched hits for the Lions, including a double by Tyler Meckley. Shane Stein started and the took the loss and he allowed four runs (three earned) and seven hits in four innings of work.
