AGGIES DROP TWO AT EASTERN

ST. DAVIDS (PA) – Eastern University scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for an 8-7 stunner in the opener and completed the Freedom Conference twinbill sweep of Delaware Valley College with a 12-1 triumph in the nightcap.

The first game saw the Aggies (8-9, 1-6 Freedom) scored all seven of their runs in the second inning, including a three-run homer by Gary Cooper – the first of the junior third baseman's collegiate career. The remaining runs crossed home plate on a two-run single by Jake Barben, a sacrifice fly by Kellen Jarrett and a double steals by Dylan Saldutti and Mike Otstot.

The Eagles (9-7, 4-4) tallied single runs from the second to the fifth inning to make it a 7-4 contest. It remained that way heading into the bottom of the ninth when they loaded the bases with no outs. Cody Hudnall came in from the Delaware Valley bullpen to replace starter Mike Isgro and quickly got the first out. However, Matt Horican had an RBI single and Dan Garcia followed with a two-run single to tie the contest. The Aggies intentionally walked cleanup batter Mike McNulty, but an error on the next ball in pay allowed Horican to score the game-winning run.

Zach Chodur was 3-for-4 for Delaware Valley while Cooper's home run was his lone hit of the contest as he went 1-for-3.

The Aggies opened the nightcap with a tally in the first on a sacrifice fly by Isgro. It was all Eastern after that as it scored two runs in the bottom of the first, four in the third, one in the fourth and five in the sixth. Garcia finished 4-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and four RBIs to lead the Eagle attack. Jesse Taylor allowed just the one run and five hits in seven innings to earn the win.

Saldutti was the lone Delaware Valley player to have a multiple-hit game as went 2-for-3 and scored on Isgro's sacrifice fly. Isgro went 1-for-2 with the RBI. Sean Tappan went just three-plus innings and suffered the loss.
