CENTER VALLEY (PA) – DeSales University completed a three-game sweep of a Freedom Conference series with Delaware Valley College as the host Bulldogs notched 12-1 and 8-3 victories on Saturday.
The first game was all DeSales (10-5, 6-0 Freedom) as it scored two runs in the first and added five more in both the second and third innings for a 12-0 advantage. Andrew Fehrer and Jason Hadinger combined for five RBIs in those innings, including a two-run homer by Fehrer in the third.
The Aggies' (7-7, 1-4 Freedom) lone run came on an RBI fielder's choice by
Jake Barben. They managed just two hits in the game as
Gary Cooper and
Zach Chodur had singles off DeSales starter Travis Hughes. Hughes went five innings to earn the win.
Sean Tappan lasted just two innings and took the loss for Delaware Valley.
DeSales scored three runs in the second inning of the nightcap, including two ff a two-out single by Nick Chiovitti. The Aggies got two back in the top of the third as Isgro reached on a fielder's choice that scored
Cory Weingart and Barben had an RBI single to plate
Dylan Saldutti.
However, the Bulldogs answered with three more tallies in their half of the third for a 6-2 advantage. Delaware Valley notched a run off a DeSales error in the fourth and Hadinger had a two-run double for the Bulldogs in the same stanza to complete the scoring.
Chiovitti, Hadinger, Mike Newland and Carson Slonaker each had two hits and two RBIs for DeSales. Dan Gayeski went five innings to pick up the victory.
Isgro, who entered the weekend as the leading hitter in Division III went 2-for-3 with one RBI, but also took the loss on the mound after going just four innings. The senior and two-time all-Freedom Conference selection is now batting .588 on the season.
