DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Returning all-conference players
Zach Chodur and
Mike Isgro went a combined 6-for-8 with three extra base hits, six runs scored and seven RBIs as Delaware Valley College posted a 16-10, non-league victory over visiting Penn State Abington.
The win improved the Aggies to 7-4 overall this season. They will return to conference action tomorrow when they host DeSales University for the first of a three-game series. The two teams will head to Center Valley for a doubleheader on Saturday.
Chodur's first breakout game of the season saw the junior shortstop come a home run shy of the cycle. He finished 3-for-4 with a double, triple, three runs scored and two RBIs. His run-scoring double was part of a five-run fifth inning to break open what was an 8-6 contest heading into the bottom half of the stanza.
Meanwhile for Isgro, the senior utility player and two-time all-conference honoree continued one of the best offensive starts to a season in Delaware Valley history. He went 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and five RBIs. It was his eighth, multiple-hit game and his seventh, multiple-RBI game this season. In 11 contests, Isgro is batting an eye-popping .619 (26-for-42) with a 1.143 slugging percentage, four doubles, three triples, four home runs, 17 runs scored and 25 RBIs.
Isgro's first two RBIs was part of a four-run third inning that gave Delaware Valley a 4-2 advantage. He later stole third and scored when the throw went into the outfield. The Aggies added more in the fourth, including two on Isgro's round-tripper.
The Nittany Lions (2-10) plated four runs in the top of the fifth to pull to within two, before Delaware Valley put five on the board in the bottom of the inning. It added two more in the sixth on an RBI triple by Chodur and a run-scoring single by Isgro. Penn State Abington scored two runs in both the seventh and ninth innings with the Aggies getting their final run in the seventh on an RBI double by
Cory Weingart.
Jake Barben and
Mike Otstot were each 2-for-3 and combined for three runs scored and one RBI for Delaware Valley.
Dylan Saldutti was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI while
Matt Giberson was 1-for-3 and knocked in a pair of runs.
Jeff Sennett picked up the win in relief, the first of his collegiate career.
Thomas Boyd and Matt Speckman were each 3-for-4 for the Nittany Lions. Boyd knocked in two runs while Speckman scored and knocked in one. Joseph Nicholson added two hits and two RBIs in the loss.
