DELVAL DROPS 8-6 DECISION TO BETHANY IN FLORIDA FINALE

FORT PIERCE (FL) – Delaware Valley College nearly rallied from a 7-0 deficit, but concluded its Spring Break week in Florida with an 8-6 setback to Bethany College (WV).

The loss was the second straight for Delaware Valley as it fell to 5-3 on the season. The Aggies will waste no time in returning to the field as they will host FDU-Florham for a Freedom Conference doubleheader on Sunday.

Bethany (5-1) built it 7-0 advantage with single runs in the first, third and sixth innings as well as two tallies in both the fifth and the seventh. Delaware Valley put one on the board in its half of the seventh and then made things interesting with a five spot in the bottom of the eighth. Jim Calabrese had RBIs in both the seventh and the eighth while Jake Barben, Mike Isgro and Kellen Jarrett plated home runs in the eighth.

Bethany added a run in top of the ninth for an 8-6 advantage. In the bottom half of the inning, Dylan Saldutti was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on Isgro's fourth hit of the game. However, Barben struck out and Jarrett hit into a game-ending double play as Brad Kubis picked up his third save of the year.

Isgro went 4-for-5 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI to cap one of the best Spring Break weeks in Aggie history. The senior and two-time all-Freedom Conference honoree batted .625 (20-for-32) with four doubles, three triples, two home runs, 11 runs scored and 16 RBIs over the eight contests. He also picked up a win on the mound by allowing just one unearned run and three hits while fanning eight in seven innings of work.

Bobby Oakes was 3-for-3 while Matt Giberson went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Zac Stavish went five-plus innings in his first start of the season and took the loss.
