AGGIES' SEASON ENDS WITH 2-2 TIE AT MANHATTANVILLE

PURCHASE (NY) – Needing a win at Manhattanville College to qualify for the Freedom Conference playoffs, Delaware Valley College came up just short on that goal as it finished its season with a 2-2, double-overtime tie with the Valiants.

Delaware Valley entered the game with a 2-3-1 conference record and seven points (three for win and one for tie) in the standings. A win would have put them in third or fourth place and their second postseason berth in the last three years. Instead, they finished fifth in the Freedom and had an overall record of 5-11-3, a marked improvement from last year's 1-13 showing.

Manhattanville (3-13-2, 3-2-2 Freedom) struck first less than 10 minutes into the contest as Morgan Rebollal set up Holly Nonis for her 10th goal of the season. It appeared that the Valiants would take the one-goal lead into the intermission, but the Aggies connected with just 2:30 to go as Elise Carpenter scored her second goal of the year off an assist from Marianne Morton.

Manhattanville regained the lead midway through the second stanza as Delaware Valley inadvertently put the ball in its own net. The Aggies regrouped and tied it a 2-2 with 11:14 to go in regulation as Morton's second assist of the game led to Merissa Ruth's second goal of the season.

Neither team managed a shot in the first 10-minute overtime, leaving Delaware Valley's season in the balance for the second session. The clock ticked into the final 30 minutes when the Aggies' Dana Gentile had a chance in front, but her shot went right to the goalkeeper and Manhattanville's Ali Bromson made the save.

Delaware Valley held a 16-14 advantage in shots with Manhattanville having a 9-8 edge in corners. Bromson stopped nine shots for the Valiants while freshman Miranda Schieler notched six saves for the Aggies.
