AGGIES FALL TO NO. 8 EASTERN, STILL GRAB A FREEDOM PLAYOFF BERTH

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College secured a spot in the Freedom Conference playoffs for the second year in a row despite Tuesday's 4-0 loss to two-time defending league champion and eighth-ranked Eastern University.

The loss dropped the Aggies to 10-9 overall and 4-3 in the conference. However, approximately 30 minutes after their game ended, they received word that last place Wilkes University went to Misericordia University and posted a 3-1 upset. That result put Delaware Valley back into the postseason.

Tuesday evenng, FDU-Florham sealed a playoff berth with a 4-0 home win over Manhattahville College. As a results, Delaware Valley and FDU-Florham finished tied for third in the standings, but the Aggies will serve as the fourth seed since they dropped an overtime decision to the Devils in the regular-season. That means a rematch with Eastern at St. Davids, Pennsylvania next Wednesday, November 3 at 2:30 p.m..

Eastern (16-2, 7-0), which found out earlier in the day that it moved up two spots to eighth in the national poll, got all the scoring it needed with 12:49 left in the first half as Brittany Moyer received a penalty corner fee from Christin Hass and blasted a shot into the cage.

It remained a one-goal contest until the second half when the Eagles scored three times in a nine-minute span. Moyer found the goal again, this time off an assist from Yvonne Herbster with 14:06 remaining. Kelby Bolton then converted a penalty stroke with 7:59 left on the clock and Herbster followed with a breakaway goal two minutes later.

Eastern held advantages of 20-4 in shots and 13-2 in corners. Laura Hessler made three saves and notched the shutout while Hollis Hancock stopped 12 shots for the Aggies. Delaware Valley honored its six seniors – Marissa Di Miero, Kate Highberger, Mindy Miniconzi, Katy Provenzale, Holly Rich and Nikki Rogers – before the contest.
