OWINGS MILLS (MD) –
Holly Rich scored with 3:29 remaining to lift Delaware Valley College to a 2-1 victory over Stevenson University in opening-day action of Stevenson's Black Eyed Susan Tournament.
The victory improved the Aggies to 2-0 on the season. They will now take on Kenyon College on Sunday (10:00 a.m.).
The game seemed headed for overtime when Rich took a feed on the left wing from
Danielle Heyne and the junior drilled the ball past Stevenson goalie Kara Zimmerman. It was Rich's third goal of the year and she has the game-winning tally in both games.
After a scoreless first half, the Mustangs (0-2) took a 1-0 lead 3:34 into the second stanza on an unassisted tally by Raechel Manly. However, the Aggies tied it nine minutes later as Heyne found the cage for the second time this year off an assist from
Bethany Pavlik. That set the stage for Rich's heroics.
Delaware Valley held advantaged in both shots (15-8) and corners (9-2).
Hollis Hancock notched four saves in the win while Zimmerman finished with five saves.
