DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College rallied from a nine-point deficit in the fourth set and completed a 3-1 victory over visiting Manhattanville College in a Freedom Conference match.
The win improved the Aggies to 12-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference while the Valiants saw their marks drop to 3-7 overall and 0-3 in the Freedom.
Delaware Valley played a sloppy first set and its eight errors contributed to Manhattanville posting a 25-18 score. The Aggies then notched 23 kills to just 10 errors over the next two games and cruised to 25-20 and 25-15 scores.
It appeared as if the match was heading to a fifth and deciding set as the Valiants took leads of 9-2 and 16-7 in the fourth. Delaware Valley rallied to take a 22-21 advantage, only to see Manhattanville grab the next three points and have two set points. The Aggies tied the match thanks to a pair of Valiant miscues.
Ashley Mikulsky's kill gave Delaware Valley a 25-24 lead and
Kelsey Fisher ended the evening with a kill of her own.
Fisher finished with a team-high 14 kills with just two errors in 32 attempts.
Amy Estep followed with nine kills and also added 17 digs while
Kaitlyn Olsen tallied eight kills and four blocks. Mikulsky finished with three kills and a match-high 23 digs while
Jaki Blood and
Amy Scordato combined for 26 assists.
Alexa Zurek paced Manhattanville with 15 kills while Kelly Schlittenhardt notched nine kills and three blocks. Makana Gomes had a solid all-around effort as she finished with seven kills, seven service aces, 33 assists and 10 digs.
