DELVAL BATS COME ALIVE IN 23-7 TRIUMPH OVER GWYNEDD-MERCY

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College exploded for 23 runs and 19 hits as the host Aggies snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 23-7, non-league rout of two-time defending Colonial States Athletic Conference champion Gwynedd-Mercy College.

The win lifted Delaware Valley to 14-9 on the season. It is the sixth time that the squad has notched double digits in runs, including twice in the last two days as they scored 11 times in Wednesday's 13-11 setback to Ursinus College. The Griffins fell to 15-8 with the loss.

The Aggies trailed 6-3 going into the bottom of the fourth inning when they sent 12 men to the plate and scored eight unearned runs off of four hits and five Gwynedd-Mercy miscues. The big blows in the inning were a two-run double by freshman Matt Barto and a two-run single by fellow rookie Matt Bodine.

The Griffins got one back in the top of the fifth, but Delaware Valley countered with four in its half of the stanza for a 15-7 advantage. Barto (single) and Bodine (triple) had RBI hits while junior Dylan Saludutti added a run-scoring single. The Aggies then added two more in the sixth as one run scored on a Mike Isgro single and another scored on the Griffins' eighth error of the game.

Delaware Valley continued the offensive onslaught in the seventh as it registered six runs off of four hits. Barto upped his RBI total in the game to six with a two-run double while Isgro smacked his second home run of the season, a two-run shot.

Isgro tied the school's single-game records for hits (5) and runs (4) as the junior went a perfect 5-for-5 with the round-tripper and four RBIs. Barto was 4-for-6 with two doubles, three runs scored and six RBIs while Bodine ended the day 3-for-4 with a triple, three run scored and four RBIs. Sophomore Zach Chodur also tied the single-game mark for runs scored as went 2-for-5 on the afternoon. Saldutti finished 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and a pair of RBIs while sophomore Gary Cooper scored two runs and knocked in two. Junior Sean Tappan tossed five-plus innings and improved his record to 4-1.

Gwynedd-Mercy was led by Nick DiEnno as he went a perfect 3-for-3 with two home runs, three runs scored and four RBIs. Dan Strack was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Scott Carroll added a solo home run in the game. The Griffins used seven pitchers in the game with Ryan Mulderig suffering the loss.
