AGGIES END REGULAR SEASON WITH 7-6 TRIUMPH OVER CHESTNUT HILL

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College scored five times in the first inning than had to hold on at the end for a 7-6 non-conference victory over Division II Chestnut Hill College.

The win was the fourth straight for the Aggies as they ended the regular season with a 21-12 overall record. They will now wait until May 11 to find out on whether or not they will receive a bid for the ECAC South Region Championships.

Delaware Valley sent 10 batters to the plate in the opening stanza as it scored five runs off of five hits and two walks. Matt Giberson drew a bases loaded walk to bring in the first run and Anthony Perry followed with a two-run single. The Aggies then executed a perfect double-steal to plate Giberson for a 4-0 advantage. Gary Cooper then drove in the final run of the inning with a single.

It remained a 5-0 ballgame until the top of the fifth when the Griffins (17-23) hit the scoreboard thanks to a two-run single by Jesse Daywalt. Delaware Valley answered with a run in its half of the inning as Perry singled, advanced two bases on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out by Cooper.

Chestnut Hill made things interesting in the eighth as it used three hits and two Aggie errors to score three times and make it a 6-5 ballgame. Nick Ricciooti and Andrew Donofry were credited with RBIs in the inning.

Delaware Valley's Joel Porambo gave his team some breathing room with an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth. They needed that run as a throwing error allowed the Griffins to get to within one in the ninth inning. Chestnut Hill then had runners on first and second with two outs when Zac Stavish got Alex Latchum to ground out to Perry at third to end the game. It was Stavish's third save of the season.

Sean Tappan improved his record to 6-2 as he went six-plus innings and allowed two runs and five hits while fanning seven. Perry led the offensive charge as he went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Porambo and Jarrett eacn went 2-for-4 while Cooper was 1-for-5 with two RBIs.

Daywalt finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs for the Griffins. George Kochu also had a multiple-hit game as he went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Josh Magyar started and took the loss.
