ALVERNIA RALLIES FOR 5-4 VICTORY

READING (PA) – Tim Ahlquist notched a two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning to lead Alvernia University to a 5-4, come-from-behind victory over visiting Delaware Valley College in a Freedom Conference game.

The loss dropped the Aggies to 13-5 overall and 1-4 in the Freedom. Four of the five losses have been one-run setbacks, including three in conference action. Alvernia improved to 15-10 and 2-3.

Delaware Valley trailed 3-1 heading into the eighth inning when it loaded the bases with one out on a hit batsmen, an error and a single. Chuck Nicholas came in out of the bullpen for the Crusaders to face Aggie centerfielder Kevin Weingart. The senior sent a ball into right field for a base hit and an error on the same play allowed him to move to second and for all three runners to score. He was credited with two RBIs on the play and a 4-3 Delaware Valley advantage.

However, Alvernia tied the game in the bottom of the ninth on a two-out, RBI single by Reid Martin. Then in the 10th, the Crusaders had runners on first and second with two outs when Ahlquist singled and Todd Speilman came in to score the game-winning run.

Delaware Valley's first run was in the fourth as Mike Isgro doubled and then scored on an Alvernia error. That tied the game at 1-1 before the Crusaders scored two times in the bottom of the fourth to regain the lead.

Weingart was 2-for-5 with two RBIs while Isgro while Dylan Saldutti also had a multiple-hit game as he went 2-for-5. Brian Hafer started and allowed three runs (two earned) while striking out six in six-plus innings. Zack Holm took the loss.
