GLENSIDE (PA) – The Delaware Valley College baseball team improved to 4-0 on the young season thanks to a doubleheader sweep of host Arcadia University on Saturday afternoon, 9-3 and 13-8.
The opener saw all-Freedom Conference pitcher
Mike Isgro take the mound and the junior went five innings allowed just three runs and two hits. He walked five batters, but fanned eight.
Brian Hafer pitched the final two innings and picked up a save.
The Aggie offense was provided by freshman first baseman
Matt Barto and sophomore rightfielder
Kellen Jarrett as they each went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Barto tied a school record with two home runs as he went deep for a solo shot in the fifth and a three-run shot in the seventh. One of Jarrett's two hits was the big blast of the game as he connected on a two-out, grand slam home run in the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie. Isgro helped his own cause by going 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI while
Anthony Perry was 2-for-4 win.
Barto and Jarrett kept their hot bats going into the nightcap. Barto went 3-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs while Jarrett was 2-for-5 with a double, three runs scored and one RBI.
Kevin Weingart was 2-for-5 with a two-run double in the second and an RBI triple in the fifth as the Aggies scored all 13 of their runs in the opening five innings. Isgro and
Dylan Saldutti added two hits apiece.
Sean Tappan started the game and went three innings.
Rob Galdieri pitched three innings of scoreless relief and earned the victory.
