AGGIES POST 3-2 VICTORY OVER DESALES

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Sean Tappan pitched eight-plus strong innings and Rob Galdieri came in from the bullpen to get out of a jam in the ninth as Delaware Valley College notched a 3-2 victory over visiting DeSales University in a Freedom Conference game.

The teams split the two-game series as the Bulldogs rallied for an 8-7 victory in Tuesday's opener. The Aggies, who will head to King's College for a Freedom twinbill tomorrow, are now 13-2 overall and 1-1 in the league. Friday's setback dropped DeSales to 9-8 and 1-1.

Tappan improved to 3-0 on the season as he allowed just two runs and five hits in eight and one-third innings. The junior walked seven batters and fanned four. He had a two-hit shutout going until the eighth when the Bulldogs notched their runs with a sacrifice fly by Derek Moyer and an RBI ground out by Zac Hess. They still had a runner on third base when Tappan got Greg Treat to ground out to third to end the inning.

In the top of the ninth, Mike Bianca singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jason Hadinger. Doc Neiman then drew a walk and Galdieri entered the game for Tappan. The senior had a 1-1 count on Nick Repas when an apparent hit-and-run attempt went astray. Repas swung and missed and Bianca was thrown out trying to steal third. Neiman moved up to second on the play, but he was stranded there as Galdieri struck out Repas on the next pitch to earn his first save of the year.

Delaware Valley used a two-out rally in the fourth inning to score all three of its runs. Zach Chodur began the stanza with a single and then stole second. After the next batters were retired, Kellen Jarrett singled to center and Chodur came around to score the game's first run. Matt Barto followed with a single and two errors on the play allowed Jarrett to score and Barto to move to second. Joel Porambo then made it 3-0 as his single to right-center field plated Barto.

Chodur finished 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and a run scored. Barto and Jarrett were each 2-for-4 with an RBI.

James Niesuchouski fell to 2-2 for DeSales as he allowed three runs (one earned) and eight hits over six innings. Andrew Kulhamer permitted two hits in two innings of relief. Five players in the Bulldog lineup had one hit apiece.
