FORT PIERCE (FL) –
Zack Holm and
Sean Tappan hurled complete-game shutouts as Delaware Valley College improved to 10-1 on the season with a pair of victories on Thursday. The Aggies opened with a 4-0 blanking of Crown College (MN) and followed with a 12-0 triumph over Bethany College (WV).
Delaware Valley has now won six of seven games on its Spring Break trip to Florida. The squad has three contests remaining down South with a doubleheader against Carleton College tomorrow and a single game with Grinnell College on Saturday morning.
Rain on Thursday morning moved the schedule around and the Aggies opened with Crown as the Bethany contest got bumped to mid-afternoon. Holm took the mound and won his first decision of the year as the sophomore allowed just two hits while striking out six.
Offensively,
Mike Isgro went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored while
Matt Barto was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.
Kevin Weingart went 1-for-4 and that hit was a two-out, two-run single in the third inning to up the Delaware Valley advantage to 3-0 at the time.
Tappan pitched a six hitter in the nightcap as the junior upped his mark to 2-0 on the season. He walked just one and fanned 10. Tappan got plenty of run support as the Aggies notched five in the second, two in the fourth, one in the seventh and four more in the eighth.
Isgro had two doubles in five at-bats. The junior and 2008 all-Freedom Conference honoree also knocked in three runs to boost his season total to a team-high 19.
Zach Chodur was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI while Weingart and
Kellen Jarrett each went 2-for-4 and combined to score four runs.
