DELVAL OPENS '09 CAMPAIGN WITH DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP OF LANCASTER BIBLE

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Six Delaware Valley College pitchers combined to allow just two hits on the afternoon as the Aggies opened their 2009 season with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Lancaster Bible College, 16-0 and 8-0.

Delaware Valley which went 25-18 and reached both the Freedom Conference and ECAC South Region playoffs last year, will now prepare for a meeting at fourth-ranked Kean University on Tuesday, March 3. The Cougars were national champions in 2007 and went to Division III World Series last year.

In Saturday's opener, junior Sean Tappan earned the win as he allowed just one hit over five innings and fanned seven. Zac Stavish and Rob Galdieri pitched hitless ball in the sixth and seventh innings.

Offensively, Kellen Jarrett went 2-for-3 with five RBIs. He had the big blow of the game with a three-run double in the fourth. Zach Chodur was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs while Anthony Perry and Joel Porambo combined for six hits.

The second game saw similar results for the Aggies. Brian Hafer took the mound and did not permit a hit and struck out a career-high 11 batters in five innings of work. Chris Albaugh and Zach Holm pitched the final two innings with Lancaster Bible's lone hit coming in the sixth on an infield single.

Jarrett went 2-for-4 and scored a run while Bobby Oakes was 2-for-3 with a run scored. 2008 all-conference honoree Mike Isgro went 2-for-4 with a double, run scored, stolen base and two RBIs. Kevin Weingart was 1-for-3 with a two-run triple.
