DelVal Baseball Comeback Effort Falls Short In 6-5 Loss To Capital

Box Score VERO BEACH, FL- The Aggies look to get back in the win column as they compete in the Jackie Robinson Training Complex at Holman Stadium against Capital.

 Delaware Valley senior centerfielder Ridge Watson would lead off the top of the 1st inning with a single up the middle. The Aggies would start the scoring later in the inning when sophomore Gavin Migliori scored Watson on a sacrifice fly. The Aggies would then load the bases with two outs after back-to-back base hits from senior Evan Scally and junior Blake Ramos. The Comets would eventually get out of the bases-loaded jam with a strikeout.

Starting on the mound today for Delaware Valley is junior Garvey Williams. Williams would go on to face six batters and allow four walks and two base hits. In a 3-1 game with the bases loaded and zero outs, the Aggies would throw first-year Patrick Barret on the mound.
Capitol would score two more runs in the inning to make it a 6-1 ballgame.

In the top of the 2nd Ridge Watson would hit a two-out single and would eventually score later in the inning off of two errors by the Comets.

In the bottom of the 3rd, senior Ryan Pittari would enter the game on the mound with runners on first and second with one out. The senior would force a ground ball and the Delaware Valley defense would turn a double play.

After a tropical storm delay that lasted over four hours, the game would eventually resume at a new location.

Delaware Valley would start off the top of the fourth with back-to-back singles from juniors Ty Gossel and Reese Hackett. After a walk from senior Johnathan Drews, grad student Hank Beilen would drive in two runs on a single through the right side to make it a 6-4 game. Later on in the inning, Evan Scally would score a run for the Aggies on an RBI single.

Sophomore Nick Covolus would enter the game for DelVal in the bottom of the fourth inning. Covolus would throw 3.1 innings allowing zero runs on only one hit.

The Aggies offense had runners in scoring position in the 5th and 6th innings but were not able to score any runs.

First-year Lucas Santise would enter the game for the Aggies in the eighth inning. He would throw two innings giving up zero runs and only allowing one hit.

 The Capitol closer would complete a ten-out save and the Comets would go on to hold on and win 6-5.

The Aggies will be back in action tomorrow against former conference foe Wilkes and then Penn State Behrend.
