DOYLESTOWN, PA- Delaware Valley baseball played their second of four home games this week as they hosted the Beavers of City College of New York on Wednesday, March 20th. The Aggies enter today's contest with a record of 7-8 coming off a 16-14 home win over Penn State Schuylkill. The Beavers come into today's matchup with a record of 2-10. Delaware Valley would go on to defeat City College of New York by a score of 10-1.
Starting on the mound today for Delaware Valley was first-year Patrick Barrett.
The Aggies would get the scoring started in the bottom of the 1st inning when first-year Jared Ecenroad singled to left field and eventually scored on an error.
Barret would start the game on the mound strong for Delaware Valley with three innings pitched and zero runs allowed. After issuing some walks in the 4th inning to tie up the game 1-1, Barret would be replaced by senior Zak Clark in relief. Clark and the Aggies defense would get out of the bases-loaded jam with a shallow fly out to left field and a 6-4-3 double play.
The Aggies would respond in the bottom of the 4th inning with a double down the line from first-year Lucas Santise, followed by an RBI triple from sophomore Daniel Murphy.
The Beavers had no match for the Aggies offense in the bottom of the 5th, as Delaware Valley would score five runs on six base hits. The inning started off with first-year SamueleMattia reaching base safely on an error followed by a single from junior Blake Ramos. With runners on the corners, sophomore Gavin Migliori would drive in a run on an RBI single to make it 3-1. Right after, Ecenroad would hit a two-run RBI double to make it 5-1. The runs kept coming for the Aggies offense as Santise would hit an RBI triple followed by a Murphy RBI single.
Junior Liam Bennett would come into the game for the Aggies in the top of the 6th inning with a 7-1 lead.
Ater a scoreless 6th inning, Junior Jeremy Kaspa would pitch for the Aggies in the top of the 7th inning.
Lucas Santise would continue with his amazing day at the plate when he knocked in histhird base hit of the day with a single to right field. The first year was a home run away from hitting for the cycle. Sophomore Daniel Villegas would score two runs for the Aggies with an RBI single to left field to make it 9-1.
Senior Ryan Pittari would get the nod on the mound in the top of the eighth inning for the Aggies.
In the bottom of the 8th, Migliori would score Ramos on a sacrifice fly to give the Aggies a 10-1 lead.
Senior Jacob McDonnell would close out what was a dominant pitching performance for Delaware Valley in the 9th inning. The Delaware Valley pitching staff only allowed one run on two hits the entire day. The Aggies bullpen would go six innings strong without allowing a single run.
This win would improve the Aggies record to 8-8 on the season. Delaware Valley will be back in action on Friday, March 22nd when they travel up to Dallas, Pennsylvania to face off against nationally ranked Misericordia.
