Box Score 2 DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – Visiting King's College held the Delaware Valley University softball team to two hits during its Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom doubleheader sweep in Doylestown on Sunday afternoon. The Monarchs took game one, 12-1, and game two, 3-0.
In the first game, Bailey Smith took the circle for DelVal and worked out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the first with a strike out and a ground out.
The Aggies took the first lead of the game in the bottom of the frame when Maddison Donnelly singled through the middle to score Kenzie Boyd who was aboard with a walk.
King's answered in the next half inning when Molly Gillette singled and came around to score on a fielder's choice to tie the game at 1-1.
DelVal was retired in order in the bottom of the second, and the Monarchs took the lead in the third on an Aggie error.
The Green and Gold were held without a hit the rest of the way and the visitors piled on three runs in the fourth and seventh in fifth to run away with the 12-1 win in the opener.
Donnelly and Carly Mahal had the lone hits for the Aggies and Smith finished with five hits and two earned runs allowed. Paige Sammons pitched two-thirds an inning in relief.
Gillette led the Monarchs with a 3-for-4 effort, two RBI, and two runs scored while Brandi McIntosh struck out three and allowed two hits and four walks through five.
In game two, King's got out to a 3-0 lead with three runs on one hit and two errors in the top of the second. Kiersten Krouse highlighted the inning with an RBI triple to the gap in right center.
Emily Novicki held DelVal without a hit in the game as she struck out three and walked four while facing 26 batters. Boyd pitched all seven innings for the Aggies and allowed five hits and three unearned runs with a strikeout and a walk.
Krouse went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Monarchs.
