Baseball Drops Home Opener To Misericordia

Box Score

DOYLESTOWN (Pa.) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team suffered a 23-5 setback to Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom foe Misericordia University in the team's home opener on Friday afternoon.

The Cougars improved to 11-4 overall and 3-1 in league play while the Aggies fell to 3-5 and 0-1. The two teams will finish the season-series tomorrow with a double header at Misericordia beginning at noon tomorrow.

The visitors posted two in the first and four in the third, and after one more in the fourth, they held a 7-0 lead.

DelVal got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with three runs on five hits. Jonathan Drews drove in two with a single through the right side and Garrett Zimmerman picked up an RBI with a single up the middle. The Aggies manufactured one more run in each of the fifth and sixth frames, but a pair of eight-spots by the Cougars in the sixth and the seventh put the game out of reach.

Sean Gledhill led DelVal at the plate with a 2-for-4 effort including an RBI single. Drews went 1-for-3 with two runs batted in and Liam Martin was 1-for-2 with a run scored. First-year Nate Rice also picked up a single. The Aggies had eight different pitchers combine to allow 19 earned runs on 13 hits while striking out five.

For Misericordia, Derek Vosburger was 2-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored and Connor Maryniak went 2-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored.
