Volleyball Falls In Five Sets On The Road

Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University volleyball team won the first two sets of the night at Penn State Brandywine before the home team captured the final three games to earn a 3-2 non-conference victory. Game scores were 26-24, 26-24, 25-15, 25-20 and 15-13.

The Aggies (3-10) led by as many as six in the first game before the Lions (6-9) went on a 13-5 run to take an 18-16 lead. DelVal later trailed, 24-22 and fought off four game-points behind the serving of Tara Moffa who closed the game with a service ace.

In game two, the Aggies jumped out to early leads of 4-0 and 10-5 and did not trail until late in the game when Sullivan Stark served seven straight points for the Lions to earn a 22-17 lead. DelVal fought back, but again faced four game-points as they trailed 24-22. Kayla Bracken led a late charge for the Aggies with three kills down the stretch, including the game-winner to make it 26-24.

Penn State Brandywine did not trail through the entirety of the next two sets to send the match to a decisive fifth set.

In the final set, DelVal took a 5-1 lead behind a pair of service aces by Danielle McKelvey and three kills, including two from Samantha Nields. The Lions responded with five straight points to take a 6-5 lead.

From there, the set was tied five different times with the last deadlock at 13-13. Jade Maloney got two kills for the Lions to close out the game, 15-13, and seal the 3-2 match victory for Penn State.

DelVal finished the match with 50 kills led by a match-high 16 by Bracken. McKelvey followed with 11 kills and added a team-high 37 assists. Alexis Sideris led all players in the match with five service aces while Moffa added four of her own to go with 27 digs.

Maloney had 14 kills for Penn State while Lauren Kelly led the squad with 15 kills. Maloney and Julia Miles each had four service aces.

The Aggies will get back to Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom play tomorrow at King's College with a 7 p.m. match start.
