Box Score 2 DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley University exploded for 34 runs and 25 hits as the Aggies swept a non-conference doubleheader from visiting Brooklyn College, 17-1 and 17-1, on Sunday. Both games were called after five innings due to the eight-rum mercy rule.
The Aggies upped their overall record to 4-7 with the sweep while the Bulldogs fell to 2-12.
Sophomore pitcher/first baseman
Jamie Stefani had an explosive afternoon as she went a combined 7-for-8 with four doubles, two triples, seven runs scored and nine RBIs. She tied school single-game record with two triples and six RBIs in the second game. In the nightcap, Stefani also hurled a one-run, one-hit game and tied her own DelVal record by striking out 12 batters.
In the first game, DelVal got on the board in the first as Stefani and
Morgan Brown laced back-to-back, two-out doubles. The Aggies then scored five runs in the second to up the advantage to 6-0.
Maddy O'Donohue was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for one tally and, one out later, Stefani ripped a bases-clearing double. The final run came on a Brooklyn error.
After a Shakira Feliciano RBI-single put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard in the top of the third, DelVal put the game away with 11 runs in the bottom of the fourth. Brown, O'Donohue,
Koraima Dudley and
Hannah Kantorski had two RBIs apiece in the stanza.
O'Donhoue went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three runs batted in while Stefani was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. She scored three and knocked in three. Dudley and Kantorski were a combined 4-for-5 with five runs scored and four RBIs. Brown was 2-for-3 with three RBIs at the plate and she also picked up the win as she permitted just one unearned run and three hits while fanning five.
In the nightcap, the Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Lesley Lima singled, stole second, moved up to third on a ground out and scored on a ground out by Feliciano. However, the Aggies responded with seven runs in their half of the stanza, including another double by Stefani as she drove in two with her third, two-bagger of the day.
Stefani then had triples in both the second and the third innings, leading to an 11-1 advantage. In the second, she scored on an error at the end of the play and her third-inning triple drove in two. Stefani then scored on a wild pitch.
Stefani had a two-run double in the fourth to highlight a six-run inning that also including a two-run single by
Morgan Hawk and a run-scoring single by Jess Ellick.
Hawk finished the second game with three RBIs while Ellick was 2-for-4 and knocked in two. All nine starters scored in the game.
DelVal will travel to Wilkes University for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom twinbill on Thursday, April 13 (4 p.m.).
