Box Score 2 DOYLESTOWN (PA) –
Jamie Stefani picked up a complete-game win and knocked in the winning tally as Delaware Valley University split a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom doubleheader with visiting Misericordia University. The Aggies won the first game, 1-0, before falling 6-5 in the nightcap.
DelVal's record moved to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the conference while the Cougars saw its marks go to 7-9 and 1-1.
Stefani, a sophomore and returning all-conference pitcher, allowed seven hits and fanned six in a 97-pitch performance in the opener. However, she was matched through the first five innings by Misericordia's Brooke Moyle.
It was scoreless going into the bottom of the sixth when
Koraima Dudley reached base on an error.
Maddy O'Donohue laid down a perfect bunt for her second hit of the game.
Kelsey Stoneberg moved the runners up a base with a ground out, brining Stefani to the plate. She smacked the first pitch she saw up the middle to bring home Dudley for the 1-0 lead.
The Cougars did not go quietly as three straight singles loaded the bases with one out. However, Stefani induced the next batter into a pop up to her in the circle and Moyle followed with a ground out to second to end the contest. Moyle allowed no earned run and four hits while striking out 11 in the tough loss.
In the nightcap, Misericordia took a 4-1 lead with two runs in both the third and fourth innings. DelVal's run came in the third on an RBI single by Stoneberg. The Aggies' then pulled to within one in the fifth inning as O'Donohue smacked a two-run homer over the left-center field fence. DelVal put two more on in the inning and Moyle came in to pitch relief and got the Cougars out of the jam.
Misericordia made it a 6-3 contest with a pair of unearned runs in the seventh thanks to a two-run single by Melanie Quintanilla that followed a pair of Aggie errors. DelVal would not go quietly as O'Donohue led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk and Stoneberg followed with a single. Stefani then doubled them both in and was in scoring position with nobody out. However, Moyle struck out the next two batters and then got a ground out for the save.
Jordan Hoffman picked up the win for the Cougars. D'Amico and Quintanilla drove in two runs apiece.
Stoneberg had three hits in four-at-bats for the Aggies while O'Donohue and Stefanie had two runs batted in each. Stefani went the distance again, allowed just two earned runs and six hits with six strikeouts in the loss.
DelVal will travel to defending MAC Freedom champion Manhattanville College on Saturday, April 8 (1 p.m.).
