DelVal Softball Splits At Eastern In Season Finale

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ST. DAVIDS (PA) – Delaware Valley University wrapped up its 2017 campaign with a doubleheader split at Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom foe Eastern University on Saturday. The Aggies took game one, 5-3, and fell in game two, 5-2.
 
DelVal finished the season with a 9-17 record overall and 4-10 mark in league play while the Eagles finished the year 7-27 and an identical 4-10 record in conference.
 
Maddy O'Donohue led off the opener with a triple to center field and came around to score on the next play as Kayla Keller picked up an RBI. Eastern got the run back in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Alyssa Bolger that drove home Jess Snader.
 
In the top half of the fourth, DelVal had runners on second and third after a single by Caitlyn Stoner and a double to right-center by Morgan Brown. It loaded the bases after a Koraima Dudley walk and managed one run in the frame thanks to an error and a run down.
 
In the Eagles half of the fourth, back-to-back doubles by Grace Gonzalez and Snader tied the game at two and they took their first lead of the game when Taylor Crown plated Snader with a bunt single.
 
The Aggies regained the lead in the next half inning thanks to three runs on two hits and two errors. Stoner had an RBI single to tie the game at 3-3 before they loaded the bases and scored two more runs on a walk and an error. DelVal managed to hold Eastern hitless the rest of the way and take the opener 5-3.
 
Stefani pitched seven innings, giving up three runs and seven hits while striking out four. At the plate, Brown was 3-for-4 and Stoner was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Dudley worked three walks in the game and earned an RBI.
 
For the Eagles, Snader was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI and Haleigh Williams suffered the loss after going four-plus innings giving up five runs (two earned) on six hits with six walks.
 
In the nightcap, Stefani got the Aggies going with a sacrifice fly to center field that plated Dudley and made it 1-0 in the third. However, Eastern got the run right back in its half of the inning with an RBI bunt single by Rebecca Howard.
 
In the bottom of the fourth, Crown singled in Leah Lozzi and later came around to score to make it 3-1. The Eagles added to their lead in the next frame as Howard got aboard with a single and scored on an error. In the sixth, Clever doubled to right-center to score Crown and make it a 5-1 game.
 
Seeking a comeback, DelVal got a leadoff single from Keller to start the seventh inning, but was later put out at third base on a fielder's choice. With two outs and runners on first and second, Brown delivered a double to left field that scored Kelsey Stoneberg, but Stoner was thrown out at third on the play and the Eagles earned the 5-2 victory in the nightcap.
 
Stoneberg went 2-for-4 at the dish with a runs scored and Brown had three hits and an RBI. Stefani also picked up an RBI and Dudley scored once. Stefani went the distance in the circle again and gave up 10 hits and four earned runs while striking out four.
 
Crown led Eastern with a 2-for-3 effort including two runs scored and one RBI. Clever was also 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored and Howard had two hits to go with an RBI and a run scored.
