Box Score 2 DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley University took eighth-ranked Moravian College to extra innings in the first game, but suffered a doubleheader sweep to the Greyhounds, 4-0 (8 innings) and 6-1.
Moravian, a traditional powerhouse in Division III, upped its overall record to 28-2 while the Aggies dropped to 4-13.
The opener featured a great pitcher's duel between DelVal sophomore
Jamie Stefani and the Greyhounds' Josie Novak. Stefani allowed just four hits and struck out five through the seven innings of regulation while Novak permitted just two base knocks (singles by Stefani and
Kayla Keller) and fanned eight.
Since it was a non-conference game, it went to the international tiebreaker at the start of the eighth inning as a runner was placed on second base to start the stanza. Julie Siragusa singled and moved to second on the throw as the runner held at third. After a ground out, Janae Matos doubled to center to knock in both runs for a 2-0 lead. An error allowed a third run and Emily Staniluious had an RBI single for the 4-0 win. Only one of the runs was earned and charged to Stefani.
In the nightcap, Moravian scored single runs in each of the first three inning and then tacked on three more in the fifth for a 6-0 lead. DelVal got its lone run of the day in the seventh as Stefani walked and moved to third on an error. She then scored on a bunt by Keller.
Amanda Carisone improve to 15-0 on the season for the Greyhounds and she allowed just one run and one hit (a leadoff single by
Maddy O'Donohue) while striking out six.
Morgan Brown went five innings, allowed four earned run and took the loss.
The Aggies will travel to the College of Saint Elizabeth for a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, April 20.
