DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University volleyball team dropped its Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom match against visiting Misericordia University, 3-0 on Wednesday.
The set scores were 25-18, 25-15 and 25-16. The Cougars evened their record at 5-5 while the Aggies fell to 2-7. It was the conference opener for both teams.
The two squads were evenly matched through the early portion of the first set, with the score tied nine times and each team holding a lead. DelVal trailed 13-12 and then Misericordia tallied six straight points to take control. Two were by way of a Paige Shaughnessy service ace. The Aggies were able to cut the deficit to 19-17 but the Cougars recorded six of the next seven points to take the stanza.
DelVal had the first point of the second set but then Misericordia rallied for seven straight and 12 of 13 for a 12-2 advantage. The Aggies could not recover and the Cougars went on to take the set. The score was tied at 13 in the final frame but Misericordia took 12 of the final 15 points to clinch the match.
Michelle Sehested and Shaughnessy led the Cougars with eight kills apiece. Nicole Tagerty registered 15 assists while Shaughnessy added nine digs. Kaitlin Wheeler and Sehested totaled seven and five service aces respectively.
Freshman
Kate Woolsey paced the Aggies with seven kills followed by junior
Taylor Klecan with six. They also had five digs apiece. Senior
Nicole Daigneault amassed 13 assists and sophomore
Kayla Bracken produced three service aces.
Next, Delaware Valley hosts DeSales University for another conference match on Tuesday, September 20 (7:00 p.m.).
