Starting pitchers
Jamie Stefani of DelVal and Alycia Feeney of the Valiants kept the team's offenses off the scoreboard for the first six innings of the opener. At that point, Stefani had allowed just four hits while Feeney was tossing a no-hitter.
In the top of the seventh, the first three Manhattanville batters reached base on singles. Sophia Chapelone and Alexis Ventarola followed with back-to-back sacrifice flies for a 2-0 lead. DelVal opened the bottom of the stanza with back-to-back singles by
Maddy O'Donohue and Stefani. Katelyn Reed then nearly won the game with a three-run homer, but her long fly ball was caught on the left field warning track.
Kelsey Stoneberg followed with a single to load the bases, but Feeney was able to get the next two batters out to complete the win. She struck out 10 in the win while Stefani had four K's.
Both pitchers took the mound to start game number two. The Valiants tagged Stefani for two runs in the first on RBIs from Desiree Buboi and Evonne Torres. They then added three in the fourth before DelVal got on the board with its lone run in the sixth.
Koraima Dudley led off the six with a bunt single and O'Donohue followed with a base hit. The two moved up a base on a ground out and Dudley scored on Stoneberg's RBI single.
Manhattanville had two home runs in the top of the seventh to round out the scoring. Alicia Marino hit a two-run bomb to left and Aarin Hartenstein put a solo shot over the right-center field fence. They had two hits apiece while Chapelone finished 3-for-4. Feeney improved to 17-1 with the win.
Stoneberg was 2-for-3 with the lone RBI for DelVal while Gruber added two hits in four at-bats.
DelVal will wrap up the 2016 campaign when its hosts DeSales University for a MAC Freedom twinbill next Saturday, April 30.
