Box Score 2 WILKES-BARRE (PA) – Kelcie Senchak hit three home runs and knocked in five as King's College swept a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom softball doubleheader from visiting Delaware Valley University, 8-2 and 10-4.
The Lady Monarchs improved to 11-9 overall and 4-2 in conference action. The Aggies saw their three-game winning streak come to an end as they fell to 11-10 and 2-4.
DelVal struck for a run in the first inning of the opener as
Ashley Rice walked, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and single and scored on a single by
Kelsey Stoneberg. However, King's responded with seven tallies in its half of the stanza, including a three-run homer by Senchak.
Both teams added runs in the fifth for the 8-2 final. The Aggies got their run when
Jamie Stefani doubled to knock in
Maddy O'Donohue while Brianna DiMaggio laced an RBI single.
Stefani went 2-for-3 at the plate and allowed just one run while pitching the final five-plus innings. She also fanned six. Senchak was 1-for-3 while DiMaggio was 2-for-4. Rachel Linso picked up the win.
In the nightcap, DelVal tied the game in the second on an RBI from
Katelynn Reed. However, the Lady Monarchs scored four in the third and added one more in the fourth for a 6-1 lead. Senchak had a homer in that spurt.
The Aggies tried to rally in the fifth as they scored three times to make it a two-run game. O'Donohue and Stefani each had run-scoring doubles while another came in on an RBI single from
Kelly Gruber. King's responded with two runs in the fifth and sixth innings, including Senchak's third round-tripper of the day.
Stefani went the distance in the second game for DelVal. Gruber and Rice had two hits apiece. Senchak was 2-for-3 with two home run and two RBIs while Rachel DeTore and Nicole Turner had three hits and two RBI apiece.
DelVal will host Penn State Hazleton for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 5.
