Misericordia Softball Sweeps Home Twinbill Over DelVal

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DALLAS (PA) – The Delaware Valley University softball team suffered a pair of Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom losses at Misericordia University on Saturday. The Aggies dropped a 1-0, nine-inning heartbreaker in the opener and followed with an 11-2, five-inning setback in the nightcap.

DelVal saw its record fall to 13-12 overall and 4-6 in the league standings. The Cougars improved to 19-11 and 7-3.

The opener was a classic pitcher's duel between the Aggies' Jamie Stefani and Misericordia's Bailee Schies. Neither allowed a run and they permitted just a combined 10 hits through the seven innings of regulation and the eighth as well.

DelVal put a runner on with two outs in the top of the ninth, but could not get on the scoreboard. In the bottom of the stanza, Whitney Ellenberg led off with a triple to left-center field. Ellenberg then scored on a wild pitch for the 1-0 win. Stefani finished with one run allowed on seven hits while fanning two while Schies had a four-hit shutout with two strikeouts.

The second game saw the Cougars score four runs in the bottom of the first, including three on a home run by Melissa Parker. DelVal got two back in the second as Stefani walked and fellow freshman Katelynn Reed followed with her first collegiate home run.

Misericordia had four runs on three hits and a pair of Aggie errors in the third and then put the game away in the fifth as Parker smacked another three-run homer. Parker finished 3-for-4 with two home runs and six RBIs while Maddie Stebich earned the win.

Reed was 1-for-2 with the two-run homer for the Aggies. Ashley Rice added two hits in three at-bats. Morgan Brown took the loss.

DelVal will travel to Penn State Abington for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 19.
