DelVal Softball Takes Two Games From Saint Elizabeth

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University softball team took both games of a non-conference doubleheader versus the College of Saint Elizabeth on Thursday. The Aggies won game one, 7-4 before winning the nightcap, 8-0 in six innings due to the eight-run rule.

DelVal improved to 11-8 on the year and the Eagles fell to 7-8.

Freshman Maddy O'Donohue got the scoring started in the opener with a two-out solo homer in the first. The Aggies took a 2-0 advantage in the second when freshman Morgan Brown plated sophomore Kelsey Stoneberg with a groundout. Saint Elizabeth got on the board in the third when it tallied a run on an error.

DelVal opened up the lead with a four-run fourth inning. Brown hit a RBI single to center and sophomore Koraima Dudley smacked a three-run triple to left center. Stoneberg added a RBI base hit in the fifth for a 7-1 margin.

The Eagles put together three runs in the sixth to close to within three. Rachael Romer clubbed a two-run double to left center and Allie Jenkins drove in a run with a single to right center. Saint Elizabeth had a chance for more with the bases loaded and two outs but freshman Jamie Stefani relieved Brown in the pitching circle and induced a groundout to end the rally. The tying run reached the plate in the seventh but Romer flied out to end the contest.

Brown picked up the victory (3-0), working 5.2 innings and allowing four runs, three earned, and eight hits. She struck out three batters. Stefani went the final 1.1 innings to record her first save of the year. Romer took the loss.

The teams were scoreless through the first three frames of game two. The Aggies' offense finally broke through in the fourth, striking for six runs. Freshman Katelynn Reed hit a RBI double to left center, sophomore Ashley Rice had a run-scoring base hit through the right side, Dudley and Reed both crossed the plate on an error, Stefani registered a RBI single and Stoneberg drew a bases-loaded walk.

With two outs in the sixth, Stefani doubled to right center and Stoneberg walked. Brown then singled through the left side to score both runners and end the game early.

Stefani hurled her second three-hit shutout of the week. She (7-3) fanned six batters in the victory. Jenkins suffered the loss (3-2).

Dudley and Stoneberg both went three-for-five on the day. Dudley had a triple and three RBI and scored one time. Stoneberg knocked in two runs and scored twice. Brown finished with four RBI and touched the plate twice. Stefani posted a double, one RBI and two runs scored. O'Donohue, Rice and Reed each drove in a run and came home twice.

For Saint Elizabeth, Romer produced a double, two RBI and one run scored. Jenkins had one RBI while Heather Passaro, Julie Rodriguez and Kayla Gonzalez each scored one time.

DelVal resumes conference play with a doubleheader at King's College on Saturday, April 2 (1:00 p.m.).
