Box Score 2 COLLEGEVILLE (PA) – Freshman
Jamie Stefani allowed just one earned run over seven innings on the mound and knocked in three runs at the plate to give Delaware Valley University a non-conference split with host Ursinus College. The Aggies, behind Stefani, took the opener, 7-5, before dropping an 8-4 decision in the nightcap.
Stefani improved to 4-3 and lowered her ERA to 1.72 on the season. She permitted just one walk and five hits as DelVal, which won just three games all of last season, moved its mark to 6-7 on the current campaign.
The Aggies trailed 4-1 going into the fifth inning when they struck for six runs on four hits and one Ursinus (6-6) error. They loaded the bases with nobody out and
Koraima Dudley drew a walk to bring in the first run. Stefani then cleared the bases with a double to left-center to put DelVal in front by one. After a lineout,
Morgan Brown drilled a two-run homer over the right-center field fence for a 7-4 advantage.
Stefani retired the next seven batters before the Bears picked up an unearned run in the seventh for the 7-5 final. Stefani was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI. Brown was 2-for-3 with the round-tripper and two RBI while
Kendall Young had two hits in three at-bats.
In the second game, the Aggies hit the scoreboard first as
Kelsey Stoneberg smacked a solo shot in the top of the second, her team-best third home run of the season. Ursinus answered with a run in the bottom of the inning and took the lead for good with a tally in the third. The Bears then added five runs in the fourth, including two-run hits by Sammi Donato and Kayla Quinn.
DelVal rallied for three runs in the fifth as
Nicole Ebersole hit a two-run triple and later scored on a ground out by
Kelly Gruber. However, Ursinus picked up an unearned run in the bottom of the stanza for the 8-4 win.
Ebersole was 2-for-3 with two RBI while Stoneberg added two hits in the contest.
Ashley Rice gave up five runs in three innings and took the loss.
Quinn was 3-for-3 with two RBI while Donato was 2-for-4 as she scored two runs and knocked in two for the Bears. Bridget Winay picked up the complete-game win.
DelVal returns to action on Thursday, March 24 when it hosts Wilkes University for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom doubleheader.
