DelVal Softball Drops Two At Penn State-Abington

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ABINGTON (PA) – Penn State-Abington racked up seven extra-base hits over two games as the host Lions swept a non-conference twinbill from Delaware Valley University, 11-0 and 11-2. Both games were called after five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.
 
In the opener, Penn State-Abington (16-9-1) scored three runs in the first inning, six in the second and two in the third for all of its offense. Breanna Lineman had the big blows with a two-run triple in the first and a two-run homer in the third. She finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Greta Sheridan scored three times and Michaela Drogalis allowed just one hit while striking out nine.
 
The Aggies' (3-23) lone base knock in the first game was a one-out single in the fifth inning by Ashley Rice, who was 1-for-2 in the contest. Hannah Robinson started and took the loss.
 
The Lions jumped out to a 6-0 in the nightcap thanks to a run in the first inning and five in the second. Sheridan provide the big hit in the second with a three-run homer.
 
Delaware Valley got on the board in the top of the fourth inning as Rice led off with a single, advanced to second on a ground out and scored on Kendall Young's RBI double. Penn State-Abington responded with a five-run effort in the bottom of the stanza, including a three-run blast by Lineman.
 
The Aggies added the final tally in the fifth as Robinson and Nicole Ebersole had back-to-back singles and Robinson moved up to third on a fielder's choice. She then scored on an RBI single from Rice.
 
Robinson was 2-for-2 while Rice was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Rice pitched the first three innings and suffered the loss. For the Lions, Lineman was 2-for-3 with the home run and three RBIs while Sheridan was 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBIs. Jennifer Rakita picked up the win.
