DelVal Softball Sweeps Valley Forge On Senior Day

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University softball team saw pitcher Hannah Robinson hurl a no-hitter in game one of a doubleheader while the bats came alive in both contests as the Aggies swept visiting University of Valley Forge, 20-0 and 11-1. Both games were called after five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.

The pair of victories upped Delaware Valley's mark to 3-21 overall while the Patriots dropped to 5-16.

Robinson's line in game one included just three walks and four strikeouts while facing 17 batters, two over the minimum, in five frames of work. It was the sophomore's first collegiate win.
Meanwhile, the Aggie offense surged early as they connected for seven runs in the first, nine in the second and four in the third.

In the first stanza, Delaware Valley got its first three batters aboard on a walk and two errors and each were able to steal second base with Robinson coming around to score the first run. Kelsey Stoneberg was the next batter out of the cleanup hole and she doubled to center field to knock in two runs. Ashley Rice followed with a single through the left side and Sydney Edwards walked, loading the bases for Brandi Skodzinski, who reached on a fielder's choice as the Valley Forge pitcher tried to get the out at the plate, but the ball was dropped by the catcher as the run scored. Lauren Alvarez came up to bat later in the inning with the bases loaded and picked up the third hit of the inning, singling to left field and driving in a run.

Robinson retired the Patriots in order again in the second with a fly ball to right field and two ground outs to shortstop, sending the Aggie offense back to work. Stoneberg led off the inning with a double to deep center and came around to score on an RBI single from Edwards. Later in the frame, KellyGruber found a hole through the middle of the infield and earned her first RBI of the day as Alvarez crossed the plate. Two batters later, Rice picked up her second hit of the game with a double to left field that plated two more runners and gave Delaware Valley the 16-0 lead after two innings.

In the top of the third Robinson put the first two batters aboard with a walk and a hit batsman. After getting one out, the runners advanced to second and third, but the Aggie defense converted a stellar double play on the next at-bat to get out of the inning. The ground ball was hit back to Robinson who went to first base for one out and Stoneberg threw home to complete the double play.

Delaware Valley got four more runs in the third on three hits including singles from Stoneberg, Rice and Alvarez.

To complete the no-hitter in the fifth inning, Robinson was able to strike out the first batter, force a ground ball to the first baseman and fan the game's final batter. Her defense was equal to the task as they committed no errors behind her. Rice was a perfect 4-for-4 from the dish with a walk, three RBIs and two runs scored. Stoneberg was 3-for-3 with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBIs while Ebersole scored three runs and knocked three in.

In the nightcap, Delaware Valley sent Ashley Rice to the mound and the Patriots got their first two hits of the day on back-to-back singles from their first two hitters. Rice battled back and struck out the final two batters to get out of the inning. In the home half of the stanza, the Aggies connected for six runs on seven hits and one error. Edwards and Kendall Young each doubled in the inning and Stoneberg picked up a pair of RBIs.

Rice helped herself from the plate in the bottom of the second with an RBI single to center field as part of a three-run, two-hit inning for Delaware Valley. Robinson led off the bottom of the third and hit a bomb over the right fielder's head and she was able to motor all the way around the diamond for an inside-the-park, solo home run that put the Aggies ahead 10-0.

The Patriots managed one run in the fourth inning as Saquiba Mufti singled to right field to score Sarah Brugere. From there, Delaware Valley cruised to its first doubleheader sweep of the season.

Rice allowed just five hits and one earned run in four innings of work while getting her first collegiate win. Stoneberg came on to pitch the final frame, allowing no hits and one walk. Robinson led the Aggies with three hits in the second game and three runs scored while four other players notched a pair of RBIs.

Alvarez and Skodzinski, the two seniors on the team, were honored before the doubleheader. Alvarez went a combined 3-for-4 with one run scored and three RBIs. Skodzinski was a combined 2-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs
