AGGIE SOFTBALL SPLITS FREEDOM TWINBILL AT WILKES

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 EDWARDSVILLE (PA) – The Delaware Valley College softball team hit the win column for the first time in 2015 as the Aggies split a Freedom Conference doubleheader at Wilkes University. The Lady Colonels notched a 7-2 decision in the opener before Delaware Valley bounced back with a 7-3 triumph in the second game.

In that nightcap, the freshman pitched duo of Nicole Ebersole and Ashley Rice combined to get the win for the Aggies (1-11, 1-3). Ebersole was credited with the victory as she went four innings and allowed just two runs (one earned) and four hits. Rice allowed one run in three innings of relief and earned the save.

Offensively, Delaware Valley took the lead for good in the second inning as it scored two times to erase a 1-0 deficit. In the stanza, freshman Kelsey Stoneberg led off with a solo home run, the first of her collegiate career. Kelly Gruber and Monica Brown drew back-to-back walks and both moved up on a passed ball. Gruber then scored on a ground out by Kendall Young.

The Aggies made it 5-1 with three runs in the fourth. Ebersole helped her own cause with an RBI single while the two scored on a Wilkes error. The Lady Colonels (5-9, 1-3) got one back in the bottom of the fourth but Delaware Valley responded with two in the fifth thanks to RBI singles from Gruber and Young. Gruber was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI while Young was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

The opener saw Wilkes scored three runs in both the first and second innings, en route to the 7-2 win. Lacey Bixler was 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs while Christina Gambino drove in three tallies. Kim Jones did not allow an earned run and fanned nine batters for the win.

Delaware Valley got both of its runs in the fourth inning on a two-run double down the left field line by Young. That was her lone hit of the game while Hannah Robinson was 2-for-4 at the plate. Robinson pitched the first two innings and suffered the loss.
