Box Score 2 CENTER VALLEY (PA) – DeSales University moved into a tie for first place in the Freedom Conference as the Bulldogs swept a doubleheader from visiting Delaware Valley University, 12-0 and 12-4. Both games were called after five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.
DeSales improved to 11-9 overall, 9-1 and tied with Misericordia University atop the Freedom standings. The Aggies fell to 1-19 and 1-9.
The Bulldogs led 4-0 before scoring seven runs on four hits in the seventh inning. Alexa Beuamont delivered the big blow with a three-run homer while Carly Bartholomew added a solo blast. They then added a final run in the fourth. Beaumont finished with four RBIs while DJ McCauley picked up the win
Four separate players had hit for Delaware Valley, including
Kelsey Stoneberg whose knock was a double.
Hannah Robinson took the loss.
The nightcap got off to a different start for the Aggies as they struck for two runs in the top of the second for a 2-0 advantage.
Kendall Young hit a one-out double and Syndey Edwards followed with a walk. Young eventually scored on a wild pitch and Edwards crossed home on an RBI fielder's choice by
Monica Brown.
It stayed 2-0 going into the bottom of the fourth and
Nicole Ebersole had yet to allow a hit. That continued as the first batter grounded out. However, the Bulldogs then exploded for 10 runs on five hits and one costly error. The inning included a three-run double by Emily Hockman and a grand slam home run by Haley Frati,
Delaware Valley responded with two runs in the top of the fifth as Robinson led off with a double and moved to third on
Kelly Gruber's single. Stonerberg followed with a run-scoring single and Gruber later scored on a ground out by Ebersole.
DeSales then ended the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Frati had the one hit and four RBIs to lead the Bulldog offense.
Gruber was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Ebersole gave up only four earned runs in the loss.
