Box Score 2 DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley College softball team took the field for the first time since its Spring Break trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina 20 days ago and dropped a pair of Freedom Conference contests to visiting FDU-Florham. The Aggies were blanked in the opener, 8-0, and fell 13-2 in the nightcap.
It was the first league games for Delaware Valley which fell to 0-10 overall. The Devils improved to 3-9 overall and 2-2 in the Freedom.
In the first game, FDU-Florham got its top two batters on base and they both scored for an early 2-0 advantage after one inning. The Devils broke the game open in the third inning, scoring six runs on five hits and one error. Audrie Thomas pitched all five innings for FDU-Florham in the win while surrendering just one hit to Delaware Valley's
Monica Brown. Paige Lillie was 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
The second game saw FDU-Florham open up an 11-0 lead thanks, in part, to a pair of five-run innings in the second and third. Those two stanzas were off of a combined 10 hits and one error. The crushing blow was a two-out, three-run delivered by Rebecca DeCarlo in the top of the second that put the Devils ahead 4-0 at the time.
In the bottom of the third, the Aggies mustered some offense when
Nicole Ebersole led off and reached on an error by the third baseman. She then displayed smart base running and advanced two bases on a wild pitch and later scored on a
Lauren Alvarez sacrifice fly to right field.
Hannah Robinson was the next batter and she hit a hard line drive that the pitcher was unable to field as she beat the play to first base. She later advanced to second on a wild pitch and was driven home on an RBI single up the middle from
Kelly Gruber.
FDU-Florham tacked on two more runs in the top of the fifth for the 13-2 final. Brittany Funicelli was credited with the victory in three innings of work while
Ashley Rice surrendered the loss for Delaware Valley. Rice and Robinson each went 2-for-3 at the dish for the Aggies. DeCarlo was 2-for-4 with two runs scores and three RBIs.
