Box Score 2 SWARTHMORE (PA) – Swarthmore College racked up 26 runs and 36 hits, en route to a non-conference doubleheader sweep of visiting Delaware Valley College, 18-0 and 8-1.
The Garnet improved to 7-9 on the season while the Aggies fell to 2-14. One of Delaware Valley's wins was a triumph over Swarthmore when both were in South Carolina for Spring Break.
The Garnet scored in all four innings they batted in in the opener, including eight tallies in the first. They had 17 hits, including a 4-4 effort from Clara Obstfeld where she also scored four runs and knocked in two. Sarah Planthby was 3-for-3 with three RBIs while Nicole Aaron was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs.
Delaware Valley was hitless until the fifth and final inning when
Loran Mihaliak and
Hannah Robinson had back-to-back singles off winning pitcher Jackie Pezzato.
Alexis Boucher went two-plus innings on the mound for the Aggies and took the loss.
Swarthmore jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings of play in the nightcap. Delaware Valley got on the board in the top of the third as
Tori Stachura drew a one-out walk and then scored after consecutive two-out singles by Mihaliak, Robinson and
Sydney Edwards.
However, the Garnet notched two unearned runs in the bottom of the third and added two more in the sixth for the 8-1 final. Aaron and Obstfeld were each 4-for-4 while Melissa O'Connor struck out nine and picked up the win.
Mihaliak and Robinson were each 2-for-3 for the Aggies while Edwards was 1-for-2 with a run batted in.
Whitney Stacey allowed six earned runs in six innings and took the loss.
