DELVAL SOFTBALL SUFFERS PAIR OF LOSSES TO PENN STATE ABINGTON

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College and Penn State Abington began its non-conference doubleheader an hour early to beat the rain and it was the visiting Lions who came out on top in both contests, 9-1 and 15-2.

The Aggies (3-25) jumped out to a 1-0, first-inning lead in the opener as Lauren Alvarez singled, moved to second on a ground out and scored on Jackie Wear's RBI single to center field.

However, Penn State Abington (16-6) scored four runs in the second innings and added five more in the third for all of its scoring (game was called after five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule). Nicole Battaglio had the big hit in the second with a two-run single while Breanna Lineman opened the third with a solo home run.

Battaglio finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Michaela Drogalis picked up the win as she allowed just one run and four hits in five innings. For Delaware Valley, Alvarez, Wear, Alexis Boucher and Sydney Edwards notched singles. Boucher pitched two innings and suffered the loss.

In the nightcap, both teams scored in the first with the Aggies' tally coming on Wear's triple to left-center field that scored Loran Mihaliak (single). The Lions took the lead for good with a run in the second and three more in the third.

Delaware Valley answered with a run in the bottom of the third as Hanna Robinson doubled to lead off the stanza, moved to third on a single by Mihaliak and scored on Whitney Stacey's two-out RBI single.

Penn State Abington then put the game away as it scored 10 runs on nine hits and two Aggie errors in the fourth inning. Part of the spurt was a three-run, inside-the-park home run by Ashley Quenzer, her lone hit of the game. Drogalis was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBIs while Emily Wrenn picked up her ninth win of the year.

Mihaliak and Robinson each had two hits and a run scored for the Aggies. Stacey took the loss on the mound.
