DELVAL SOFTBALL DROPS PAIR OF FREEDOM GAMES AT KING'S

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WILKES-BARRE (PA) – Brittany Haight pitched a three-hit shutout in game one and followed with a three-scoreless inning performance for a save in the nightcap as host King's College swept a Freedom Conference doubleheader from Delaware Valley College, 8-0 and 7-2.

Both teams braved the cold and then the rain to complete the twinbill. The Lady Monarchs improved to 11-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play while the Aggies fell to 2-12 and 1-5.

Haigh allowed just singles to Alexis Boucher, Rachel Metz and Loran Mihaliak in the opener. She also fanned seven in the contest. Meanwhile, the King's offense notched singles runs in the first and fourth innings, two runs in the third and ended the game with four tallies in the fifth. Erin Beane went 3-for-4, including a two-run single in the fourth while Amanda Cardone was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Boucher allowed eight runs in four-plus innings and took the loss.

The Lady Monarchs took an early 3-0 lead in the second game before Delaware Valley got on the scoreboard in the fourth thanks to a two-out double by Mihaliak which brought home Sydney Edwards.

It was 4-1 in the top of the fifth when the Aggies loaded the bases with nobody out thanks to singles by Whitney Stacey and Nina Stachura and a walk to Hannah Robinson. Haight came in the pitch and got one out before Tori Stachura had an infield single to score Stacey and make it 4-2. Haight got her team out of the inning without any more damage and King's added three runs on two hits, two walks and two wild pitches in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 7-2 contest.

Haight saved the game for Karissa Kross, who was charged with two runs and six hits allowed over four innings. Jenn Harnischfeger went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run.

Mihaliak, Robinson, Tori Stachura and Jackie Wear each had two hits in the second game for Delaware Valley. Magen Majeski took the loss as she gave up four runs (three earned) and eight hits over four innings.
