Box Score PURCHASE (NY) – Delaware Valley College came back to force a fifth set and then rallied for a late tie in the fifth, but host Manhattanville College notched the final two points for the 3-2, Freedom Conference win. Set scores were 25-18, 22-25, 25-21, 20-25 and 15-13.
The Valiants improved to 11-13 overall and 2-3 in the conference while the Aggies, who nearly picked up their second, five-set win a row, fell to 4-17 and 0-5.
The back and forth match lasted more than two hours and featured 95 kills, 191 digs, 20 service aces and 12 blocks. The Aggies had a better hitting percentage (.114 to .072) and had less hitting errors (23 to 38), but hurt themselves with 11 service errors and nine ball handling errors (compared to five and three by the Valiants).
It all came down to the fifth set and Delaware Valley found itself down 12-8. However, the Aggies scored five of the next six, including three kills from freshman
Maria Cameron and another from fellow rookie
Taylor Klecan, to tie the set at 13-13. After a Manhattanville timeout, the Valiants' Kerry Mackey registered a kill to bring up match point. The Aggies called time but it was Mackey again with the kill and the win for Manhattanville.
Cameron had a big night for Delaware Valley as she recorded 16 kills, 12 digs and six blocks, including four solo rejections. Senior
Gina Page had 13 kills and 19 digs while Klecan had eight kills and nine digs. Senior
Crystal Ronan's line included four kills, six service aces, 22 digs and 30 aces.
Alissa Primavera paced the Valiants with 17 kills. Mackey had 11 kills and six digs while Alyssa Casino led the defensive effort with 33 digs. Meghan Quinabo handed out 39 assists and served up four aces in the win.
